Winter Break Master Classes for Ages 9.5+
Improvisation, Dance Composition & Audition Prep Tuesday Adventure into improvisation, dance composition, and audition prep! A 1.5-hour modern dance technique class incorporating elements of improvisation, followed by an exploration of dance composition through guided activities and creative games designed to expand each student’s artistic voice. Dancers will develop original solos to share with parents at the end of class—pieces that can also be used as audition material wherever solos are required. Ages 9.5+ Pointe Prep & Advancing Jumps Wednesday The devil is in the details, and in this pointe prep master class, featuring a 2hr ballet class and extended time for strength building releve sequences, dancers will have the opportunity for even more personal attention than a traditional 1.5hr class allows. With a focus on alignment through the feet and ankles as well as how to work from a supported center, dancers will solidify strategies to use in all their classes as they work towards pointe and more advanced vocabulary. The end of the workshop will feature a focus on jumps, cleaning up petite allegro and coordinating arms as well as breaking down and building the coordination for larger jumps. Levels Ballet III and up A Lyrical Approach to Technique & Conditioning Thursday Adventure into specialized conditioning for dancers--this master class pairs a lyrical technique class with targeted conditioning designed to enhance flexibility, control, and injury prevention. Dancers will begin with lyrical as a movement base, exploring phrasing, extension, and expressive transitions—then shift into a Progressing Ballet Technique (PBT) session using bands and small yoga balls for focused strength-building and body awareness. PBT is a conditioning program designed specifically to support dance technique. Originally developed for ballet, it is now widely used by dancers and sports physiotherapists alike to build muscle memory and support safe, effective training across styles. Dancers will work through ballet-specific exercises to improve flexibility, balance, and alignment, while reducing injury risk and enhancing overall body awareness. Ages 9.5+ Variations Workshop Friday Adventure into the classical repertory! Includes a 1.5-hour ballet technique class, yoga, and in-depth coaching on a variation or solo, which will be performed for parents at pick-up. Students will explore the historical and stylistic context of the variation while developing musicality and expressive detail specific to the repertoire. Individualized feedback will help dancers refine artistry to build stage presence and a deeper appreciation for the tradition of ballet. Levels Ballet III and up |
