SUMMER CAMP PREP PAGE

Welcome to ALDEN MOVES Dance Theater’s Summer Dance Immersion Camps!
Led by Director Alden LaPaglia and studio faculty and staff, immersions feature theme-specific dance classes and activities including costume & prop design, dance history through film, choreography, and more.

Here's everything you need to know:

WHAT TO WEAR
Dance or athletic wear. Be sure to also pack both “warm-ups” (sweaters/sweatshirts and sweatpants that can be worn over dancewear or changed into when we aren’t dancing) and clothes that kids can paint or otherwise get messy in for art projects.

WHAT TO BRING
Lunch and snacks! Students will have a snack break around 10:00am or 10:30am and a lunch break around 12:00pm or 12:30pm, depending on the agenda for the rest of the day.

WHAT TO EXPECT
Campers have morning technique classes appropriate for the theme of the week (or for Dance Explorers, in the style of the dance being explored that day) followed by days spent enjoying production prep for our end-of-camp showcase. Light make-up is always welcome for showcase days but must always be done before campers arrive for camp as we don't have extra time to do it prior to the showcase. We will send you details on hair, and anything campers will need to wear from home the Wednesday or Thursday prior to the showcase. You may also receive videos of the choreography for them to work with at home, though we don't always do this for younger dancers. Keep an eye on your e-mail!
  • For Broadway Bound: campers will have 2-3 songs to learn, which will require outside practice at home. We will give them a folder with lyric sheets, which they should take home and bring back each day, and e-mail you initial videos to help them learn each melody. We do not always choose music written for kids' voices so we often change the key and arrange the music to make it work for them and their choreography. You'll receive final practice arrangements of the music when this is solidified (often week 2 for 8-11 yr olds).

DROP-OFF & PICK-UP
Drop-off: 9:00am or just before. Due to the set-up involved each day, campers should otherwise not be dropped off before 8:50am.
Pick-up: 2:30pm.

Early Drop-off: No earlier than 8:15am. Requires advance registration, which is now closed. The studio is not otherwise staffed.
Extended Day: Pick-up no later than 5:30pm. Requires advance registration, which is now closed. The studio is not otherwise staffed.

END-OF-CAMP SHOWCASE
In-Person Viewing, 2:00pm last Friday of each camp. 2 guests per dancer.
Run time will be a
bout 20min, but note that this is all dependent on starting on time and keeping things moving. There are usually costume and set changes in between the pieces being showcased.

REGISTRATION FORMS
Reminder that we require updated registration forms each year. If your student is either new to the studio or you have not filled out an updated registration form since last summer, please complete, scan and return the attached form or send it with your dancer on Monday. We need to make sure we have all updated medical/allergy and emergency contact information in particular.

IMAGE USAGE
We're very careful with the way we use student images at the studio. We never post photos/videos with names or underwear showing, and we only post things that students can be proud of. We always appreciate being able to share camp activities with you and prospective families as they influence registration, but we work to respect privacy as well. Please be sure your photo preferences are marked on your forms. We will assume that we have permission to share images in responsible ways unless you have expressly stated otherwise.
